- Friday, April 29, 2022
Columbia River Eating Disorder Network (CREDN) is offering the first of a 3 point CREDN mini-conference. Sign up now to see our first speaker of the series, Schuyler Bailar.
The topic for the overall conference is "Special Populations and Inclusivity in the Treatment of Eating Disorders".
The event will take place on Friday, April 29th from 12pm-2pm PT via Zoom.
Schuyler Bailar will briefly share his journey through eating disorder recovery and his identity discovery to become the first transgender NCAA D1 men's athlete in any sport. He will explore the challenges at the various intersections of his identity as a queer Korean American transgender athlete who has struggled with mental health. Schuyler will welcome questions, engaging the audience in a dynamic conversation about topics ranging from his coming out journey, toxic and gentle masculinity, gender dysphoria, body image, and radical body acceptance, competing at elite levels as an LGBTQ+ athlete who recovered from an eating disorder, the role of disordered eating, self-harm and therapy in his journey; and activism in the current political landscape.
Learning objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify terms associated with gender identity and gender expression.
- Participants will be able to identify the difference between gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia.
- Participants will be able to identify at least one action item to create a more inclusive, open and accepting environment for self and others.
